About Jordan

If you're new around here or have known me my whole life (hi, mom and dad), a few things to get to know me and this space better:

  1. I like bullet points. My brain loves a good spreadsheet.

  2. I grew up liking math just as much as writing, so much so that I am a math teacher by trade. That appreciation for clarity and organization is reflected in the way I write. This is how I make sense of the world.

  3. I had my first child in January of 2012 and shortly after decided to resign from my teaching position to stay home with the my oldest daughter. I started my first blog at the end of that year as a creative outlet during those early years of motherhood. I eventually built that blog into a very sweet, very Christian platform, writing for different publications and speaking at women’s events. I wrote honestly about frustrations, but something soul-crushing was happening simultaneously to the stories I was sharing with all the happy endings.

  4. In 2021, after cultural, spiritual, and personal disenchantment, I came out of the Deconstruction closet and wrote several entries on my socials entitled the “Deconstruction Diaries” which you can now find here. I have since been on a path of redefining my faith and how I interact with the world.

  5. I’m from Texas so the scars of the Bible Belt run deep, but I’m one of the lucky ones whose parents (and rest of my family) are walking with me, not against me. They are my biggest fans and support system and I realize the rarity of that.

  6. I have three kids and a husband. The older we all get, the more protective I am of their privacy so just trust me when I say you’d love them and they’re the coolest.

  7. My actual real job is a Design Coordinator for a retail shop and Interior Design Studio in Abilene, TX. I work for my best friend since college who also happens to be the best Interior Designer in the WORLD. I know, what are the odds?

  8. This is my spot on the internet that holds the words that my mind needs out. Or in other words:

    This is the slowing down,

    the mechanism with which

    my thoughts will hold still

    for a millisecond longer.

    Long enough to hold onto,

    to write down.

    That maybe one or two

bouncing from front to side to back to front

    of my skull

    will finally make it out

    into the world

    or at least

    onto this page

and I will be one word lighter,

    mind one word slower

    than it was before.
